The good garden blog is about sharing garden inspiration and ideas from historic gardens around the world and some right next door.  Garden stories explore garden history, design, and the garden people behind famous and not-so-famous gardens.  My garden photographs span dozens of places across 5 continents.  Please join me in celebrating good garden design.

Ghostly combinations

David October 14, 2014

Visiting gardens is a great way to get ideas for combining plants.  On a recent visit to the Chelsea Physic Garden I was drawn to the number of silver plants being used.  These photos  include Helichrysum, Yarrow, and Eryngium, also called 'Silver Ghost'.  In the warm summer sun, they looked fresh and cool; combining texture and shape in wonderful ways.  The Chelsea Physic Garden in London was originally founded in the 1670's to study and cultivate plants for their healing properties.   This walled garden in the middle of London maintains a living encyclopedia of plants arranged in beds, a fernery, green houses, and a coffee shop.
