Garden talks and articles
"highly visual and interactive... like a friend that takes you to gardens and shares fun stories about them." I am the one who says “look at this” and though you might complain or appear reluctant, inside you are thinking that this is cool stuff too. I love to reveal the layers of a landscape, especially elements that may not be readily visible. All talks are based on my own photography and experiences.
Let me know if you are interested in having me speak to your group.
Whether you are updating your garden’s design this season or looking for a few way to look at landscapes? Let's turn to the past for some fresh ideas! In this talk I share design techniques inspired by historic gardens, with a focus on how these affect how gardens feel. Time tested by generations of gardeners, these methods can be applied to our own gardens today – regardless of size, style or budget - to create great feeling outdoor spaces.
Garden history from 130 to 1930. Together we travel over 40,000 miles to visit 12 gardens that changed the world - across four key periods: Classical, Middle ages, Rise of Europe, and the Machine Age. This unique talk explores how garden design reflects culture, philosophy, and economics over time. We'll see how design approaches connected and reacted to each other.
This talk focuses on straightforward, practical tips to taking your best garden photos - telling a story, making choices, and having the right equipment. The session is highly interactive including: critiques of our own and professional work, and homework assignments to do individually or in groups. Based on over 40 years of experience and tips from professional garden photographers.
Through my photography and writing, I celebrate local gardens and their stories. Whether a small private place or more well-known, the landscapes I feature are full of inspiration.
